Spinning Culture, Shaping Sound: DJ Ali G in the Spotlight

Blending Afrobeat, Amapiano, R&B, and deep house into a distinctive sonic signature, DJ Ali G is rapidly carving out a name for himself across the Gulf’s vibrant nightlife scene. Born in Kuwait and raised on a global soundscape, his sets radiate cultural fusion and undeniable energy. From Dubai’s elite venues to Muscat’s buzzing lounges, Ali G’s presence behind the decks is magnetic. With a fast-growing social media following and an eye on international stages, he represents a bold new wave of regional talent. City Pages Magazine sat down with DJ Ali G to explore his journey, the challenges of carving a niche, and his vision for the sound of tomorrow.

You’ve made a name for yourself across cities like Dubai, Muscat, and Abu Dhabi. What was the first gig that made you feel like “this is really happening”?
It was an event in Dubai at the DIFC, at a club called Mendes. My picture was everywhere around the venue, and I was the headlining act. That was the moment I truly felt, “This is really happening.”

As a Sudanese artist in the Gulf scene, what challenges or advantages have shaped your career?
One of the main advantages has been my fluency in the Gulf dialect. It helped me connect easily with the audience, promoters, and industry professionals across the region. It made me feel like I genuinely belong in the scene.

Your social media is full of personality. How much of that is strategy, and how much is just Ali being Ali?
It took a long time to build my social media presence. I put a lot of focus on the quality of my content, and everything I post is carefully planned. So yes, there’s definitely a strategy behind it, but it’s still 100% me. Every detail reflects who I am and what I stand for as an artist.

If you could headline one city or festival anywhere in the world, no limits, where would it be, and why?
Tokyo, Japan without a doubt. My visual identity is heavily inspired by Japanese culture, so performing there would feel like a full-circle moment. It’s a city that values both tradition and innovation, and that aligns perfectly with the kind of energy I bring to the stage.

Tell us about being part of the Midro project – the new sound of music and the alignment between the genre you’re creating and your vision as a DJ.
Midro is an amazing project, and I’ve always been a big supporter of innovation in music. I naturally gravitate toward new sounds, and the fusion I’m creating a mix of Amapiano, Afrobeat, and deep rhythms fits perfectly with Midro’s vision. It’s about pushing boundaries and offering something fresh, and that aligns completely with who I am as a DJ.
