Celebrating 170 years, Burberry has refreshed its classic trench coats, car coats and jackets for summer in tropical gabardine – the lightest of the brand’s signature fabrics, developed for warmer climates.

Timeless silhouettes include the Kensington, Waterloo and Fitzrovia trench coats, alongside the streamlined Camden car coat, presented in a seasonal colour palette of pale sugar pink and stone beige, or graphite grey for men.

Bringing a modern, tailored edge to the range, the women’s Mayfair trench jacket offers a sharp, cropped cut, while the Bloomsbury for men is Burberry’s take on the classic Harrington jacket.

Woven into the fabric of the British house, gabardine was invented by Thomas Burberry in 1879 and quickly became prized for its lightweight, breathable and water-resistant properties. By 1893, the house signature was available in a variety of weights, engineered to adapt to the many weather conditions customers might encounter at home or further afield.

Tropical gabardine continues this tradition of material innovation, with each piece crafted from shower-resistant cotton woven at the historic Burberry Mill in Keighley, West Yorkshire, and lined in archive beige Burberry Check.
