Founder and Creative Director Lilian Afshar originally studied to become a ready-to-wear designer. It wasn’t until the presentation of her graduating collection from Esmad in 2013 did she realize the conceptualization of the signature L’Afshar box clutch. An avid believer that a woman needs nothing more than a few essentials to get by, her designs remain compact, contemporary and always ladylike, following the philosophy that less is more. Drawing on her up-bringing as a British-born Iranian who moved around a lot from London, Vancouver, Marbella to Dubai – Lilian’s aesthetic is inspired by her travels and love of art.

For the brand’s Spring Summer 2023 Collection, Founder & Designer, Lilian Afshar, took inspiration not only from her home-country of Iran with the mirror engravings from the mirror work at Golestan Palace in Tehran, as well as from baby pinks from worn by the dancers in Edgar Degas’ ‘Ballet Scene’; through to the pops of transparent colour, inspired from her visit to the Venetian Islands of Murano; known for its famed Murano Glass.

The production process consists of 14 unique steps, and a single piece is the result of 6 to 7 hours of work. Sculpted elements in particular require close attention to detail, and often need the most time to create; handles for their bags take close to 3 hours to shape.

L’Afshar continues to produce in the UAE at their Al Quoz factory in Dubai. Sustainability is an important pillar for the brand; L’Afshar creates innovative design concepts that there is not surplus waste but rather additional design. This results in a maximum output with minimal waste and excess, ensuring that the consciously designed products make a minimal impact on the environment.

The L’Afshar SS23 collection continues to evolve and elevate from the signature L’Afshar box clutch; bringing in new shapes and materials such as the “Dalida,” a leather clutch bag with a croc effect with gold hardware and a magnetic closure and “Edna” a leather bag with a top handle and detachable chain straps.
