Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in enhancing mobility, relieving pain, and improving overall quality of life. In this issue of CP Magazine, we are delighted to feature Dr. Bashayer, a highly skilled physiotherapist whose dedication to rehabilitation and patient care has made a significant impact in Kuwait.

From an early age, Dr. Bashayer was passionate about healthcare, drawn to the idea of helping people regain their strength and independence. What inspired you to pursue a career in physiotherapy and rehabilitation?
Since I was young, I played a doctor-and-patient game with my siblings, cousins, and neighbors. Then, when I was in university, I was seeking a profession that would allow me to have direct contact with patients on a daily basis, so I chose physiotherapy and rehabilitation as a career.

Can you tell us about your educational journey, from Kuwait University to Brighton University?
I graduated from Kuwait University – Allied Health Science as a physiotherapist with a bachelor’s degree. My dream was to be a doctor in my profession, so I applied for a scholarship from the Ministry of Health – Kuwait to pursue my dream by continuing my master’s degree and PhD in Physiotherapy – Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders and Ergonomics. Why Brighton? Because my dad was a student at Brighton University, so I was determined to choose Brighton University.

What motivated you to open Bashayer Center for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation?
First of all, it was my dream to open a clinic. Moreover, I wanted to be close to my patients and work freely with them without any rules or restrictions. In addition, I wanted to give them the best care for a faster recovery.

What makes Bashayer Center unique compared to other physiotherapy clinics?
At Bashayer Center, you will feel like you are in your second home, and I will treat you and take care of you as if you were a family member. All my patients are close to my heart, and their progress and well-being are my top priorities. At Bashayer Center, I treat both adults and pediatrics, not just adults.

When did you officially launch the clinic, and what was the vision behind it?
I launched the clinic in November 2024. The vision behind it was to empower individuals to move freely and live pain-free by providing expert physiotherapy care and innovative treatment solutions.

What are the most common conditions you treat in Kuwait?

Sports taping, dry needling, medical cupping, electrotherapy, manual therapy, the McKenzie technique, and the Ergon technique.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
My patients’ smiles and happiness when they are pain-free or when their mobility improves. Also, when they ask to hug me as a way of saying thank you.

How important is physiotherapy for preventing long-term injuries?
Regular physiotherapy assessments and treatments can keep your body functioning optimally and prevent chronic conditions from developing by strengthening the muscles and joints, improving flexibility and mobility, correcting posture and movement patterns, reducing pain and inflammation, and preventing the recurrence of injuries.

What role does ergonomics play in maintaining good health?
Ergonomics plays a vital role in maintaining good health by optimizing how we interact with our environment to prevent injuries, improve posture, and enhance overall well-being.

How can office workers prevent back and neck pain?
Proper workstation setup and body mechanics, a well-designed workspace, ergonomic chairs and desks, keyboards, and using a vertical computer mouse instead of the traditional mouse can help prevent musculoskeletal injuries by enhancing posture, reducing fatigue and discomfort, improving circulation, and boosting productivity and focus.

Do you offer any treatments specifically for athletes or sports injuries?
Yes, I focus on rehabilitation, injury prevention, pain management, performance enhancement, and injury prevention strategies before and after championships. For example, load management, stretching and warm-up routines, posture and gait analysis, functional training, plyometrics and agility drills, and biomechanical analysis.

How does physiotherapy help with neuromusculoskeletal disorders?
Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing neuromusculoskeletal disorders by improving mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing overall function.

What are some misconceptions people have about physiotherapy?
They always think physiotherapy is just massage therapy, electrotherapy, and heat/cold therapy. This is 100% wrong.

What is your motto in life, and how does it reflect in your work?
My motto is: work hard, stay focused, and never give up on my dreams. When I work hard and stay focused on pursuing my dreams, it helps my patients move better, feel stronger, and live pain-free. Every step forward is a step toward recovery.

Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you?

What message do you have for people who might be hesitant to seek physiotherapy treatment?
