BALLY FOUNDATION REVEALS EXHIBITION WITH SAUDI-AMERICAN ARTIST SARAH BRAHIM

This Autumn, Bally Foundation proudly presents the first solo exhibition of Saudi-American ArtistSarah Brahim: ‘‘Sometimes we are eternal,’’ hosted at the enchanting Villa Heleneum. Situated in Lugano, Switzerland, this remarkable exhibition offers a unique intersection of the past and present, guiding us through Brahim’s past ten years, a period marked by profound loss and the transformative nature of art.

At the heart of this exhibition lies the notion of “intrabody,” a term Brahim uses to delve into the intricate connections between our inner selves and the boundless universe. Drawing from her dance background, she orchestrates an intimate dance between her essence and her art, creating a mesmerizing dialogue between her being and her creations. The exhibition spans two floors at Villa Heleneum, resembling a dance studio, featuring video and sound installations, photographs, and sculptures. These elements come together to form a narrative that challenges our understanding of existence and our physical presence in the world.

Sarah Brahim, born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1992, received her training from renowned institutions such as the San Francisco Conservatory, the London School of Contemporary Dance, and Oregon Health and Science University. Her residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in New York in 2023 and the Baroness Nina von Maltzahn Fellowship for the Performing Arts have been significant milestones in her career.

The collaboration between the Bally Foundation and Sarah Brahim is not only a celebration of art but also an embodiment of the foundation’s commitment to shaping Lugano’s future. By fostering dialogues at both local and international levels, this partnership stands as a testament to the foundation’s pivotal role in shaping the city’s cultural landscape.

The exhibition is open to the public at Villa Heleneum in Lugano, Switzerland, until April 28, 2024.
