Bedour Alsumait – Finalist of EmpowerHER 2025

Leading eco-friendly innovation and transforming sustainability into a lifestyle movement across Kuwait.

For Bedour Al-Sumait, entrepreneurship is not just a career path, it’s an instinct. From a young age, she was drawn to business, curiosity driving her to experiment with every idea that sparked her imagination. Over the years, that passion evolved into purpose, culminating in OneUse KW, a pioneering Kuwaiti brand producing eco-friendly, biodegradable single-use products made from bamboo. Her journey reflects both innovation and determination, an entrepreneur who dared to challenge norms, lead with purpose, and turn sustainability into a way of life.

When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global industries, Bedour saw an opportunity where others saw uncertainty. The idea for OneUse KW was born from a simple observation: people needed hygienic, high-quality single-use items but they also needed options that didn’t harm the planet. “We were the first in the region to design and produce single-use products with such creativity and quality,” she says proudly. “It was innovation born out of necessity, and a desire to protect both people and the environment.”

Her venture began with only a handful of prototypes, biodegradable sheets, towels, and robes crafted from bamboo fiber but soon grew into a full range of environmentally conscious essentials used across Kuwait and the Gulf region. Clients quickly trusted the brand for its blend of hygiene, practicality, and sustainability. “Our mission goes beyond business,” Bedour explains. “It’s about raising awareness, helping people understand that caring for their health and the environment can go hand in hand.”

For Bedour, empowerment is synonymous with knowledge. “It’s about awareness knowing yourself, learning constantly, and sharing what you know,” she says. Her leadership style reflects this belief. She is deeply committed to mentorship, guiding others to learn from her experience rather than repeat her mistakes. “Empowerment means shortening the distance between ambition and achievement,” she explains. “It’s about teaching others how to walk the path more wisely.”

Among her proudest achievements are representing Kuwait’s entrepreneurs abroad in exchange programs in the United States and the Netherlands and receiving the I Am the Summit award, honoring her as a role model for ambitious youth. Yet, behind every accolade lies persistence. “Entrepreneurship is not a straight line,” she says. “Like a heartbeat, it has highs and lows that’s the sign of life.”

Her path was far from easy. High operating costs, societal expectations, and logistical barriers were constant tests of her resolve. “There were times when I had to stand at the port myself to receive shipments,” she laughs. “It wasn’t something people expected from a woman but that’s exactly why I did it.” Each obstacle became an opportunity to prove that leadership has no gender.

Bedour’s work carries a strong sense of purpose and community. Through OneUse KW, she promotes not just sustainability but also responsibility. “We’re changing how people think about everyday consumption,” she says. “We want our customers to feel good about what they use knowing it’s safe, high-quality, and eco-friendly.” The brand’s simple yet powerful pillars, Safety. Health. Sustainability, sum up its philosophy.

What sets Bedour apart is her ability to balance creativity, strategy, and leadership. She sees them as three paths that constantly intersect. “To lead effectively, you must innovate constantly and adapt to change,” she says. “The market moves fast, you need to stay aware and aligned with global trends.” For her, sustainability isn’t a buzzword; it’s the future of business.

Her inspiration comes from family, her grandfather’s wisdom, her mother’s strength, and her father’s steady support. “They taught me that resilience is inherited, but ambition must be earned,” she reflects. That family influence gave her the confidence to take risks, to learn, and to lead.

Bedour’s vision is clear: to expand OneUse KW beyond Kuwait and the Gulf, reaching every Arab country with products that combine convenience and conscience. “We started small,” she says, “but the idea is big enough for the world.”

Being part of Porsche’s EmpowerHER initiative has been a defining experience for her. “Standing among such inspiring women gives me energy,” she says. “It’s not just recognition, it’s responsibility. It motivates me to keep leading by example and proving what women in business can achieve.”

As the evening of celebration draws closer, Bedour reflects on how far she’s come. “Excellence has always been my personal drive,” she says with quiet pride. “Innovation keeps me moving forward but it’s knowledge that gives me purpose.”

Her story is one of courage, curiosity, and conviction, a woman who transformed vision into impact and set a new benchmark for sustainable entrepreneurship in Kuwait. Through OneUse KW, Bedour Al-Sumait has shown that empowerment can begin with a single idea and grow into something that changes the way a nation thinks about its future.
