Founder & CEO of Jameia.com
In a region where tradition and innovation often walk hand in hand, few entrepreneurs embody this harmony as authentically as Engineer Abdul Mohsen Alajmi. As the founder and CEO of Jameia.com — one of Kuwait’s most successful and socially driven online platforms — Alajmi has redefined what it means to merge engineering expertise with entrepreneurial vision. What began as a personal observation, inspired by his mother’s daily grocery routine, has grown into a pioneering digital ecosystem that serves over 150,000 active customers across Kuwait.
More than just a marketplace, Jameia.com reflects the pulse of Kuwaiti society — from family values and community spirit to a deep respect for convenience and quality. In this exclusive interview, Alajmi speaks to CP Magazine about the perseverance behind his journey, the cultural heart of his business, and how Jameia.com is not only reshaping consumer behaviour but also uplifting local initiatives and charitable causes.
From engineering classrooms to warehouse floors, his story is one of relentless curiosity, purpose-driven leadership, and a belief that technology, when rooted in sincerity, can bring about meaningful change. Join us as we delve into the story of a Kuwaiti innovator whose platform is as much about progress as it is about people.
The Mind Behind Kuwait’s Leading Online Grocery Revolution
Engineer Abdul Mohsen, could you share the story of your personal journey, highlighting how perseverance and hard work have shaped the path that led you to become an entrepreneur and innovator?
Every success you see today is built on countless moments of challenge, reflection, setbacks — and renewed hope. I was born into a creative environment, but like many young Kuwaitis, I built myself from the ground up, driven by a dream to bring my ideas and innovations to life. I’ve always believed that an idea alone is not enough; it needs endurance and a kind of perseverance that doesn’t stop at the first obstacle.
What started as a dream and a small project gradually grew, and each experience I went through became an unspoken form of training that prepared me for founding Jameia.com. Along the way, I learned that true confidence in success must come from within — only then can it translate into tangible steps on the ground.
Tell us about your education?
I hold a university degree in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. But I never stopped at just earning the certificate — I was always searching for knowledge beyond the textbooks. I read extensively in management, and marketing in particular became one of my favourite passions. I’ve always been fascinated by human behaviour and people’s needs.
University gave me the tools, but my true passion for innovative solutions began outside the classroom. I’ve always believed that real entrepreneurship isn’t something you’re taught — it’s something you gain through experience.
What inspired you to found Jameia.com, and how did you recognize that this project could fill a unique niche in Kuwait’s market and culture?
The inspiration came from home — from watching my mother spend long hours at co-ops, waiting in queues, searching for offers. I realised there was a real opportunity to transform this daily routine into a smart, digital experience.
Jameia.com wasn’t just an app; it was a promise to change the way people live. I saw a clear gap in the market for professional wholesale services delivered with convenience. In Kuwait, families often live together under one roof, and with the help of domestic staff, bulk buying becomes essential. My true motivation was to save people time and effort, and to provide well-crafted deals at the best prices — all without compromising on quality.
Jameia.com is described as a uniquely Kuwaiti project; can you explain what aspects of Kuwaiti culture or community needs you aimed to capture in the origin and design of the platform?
Kuwaitis appreciate simplicity, speed, and quality. I wanted Jameia.com to reflect the spirit of the Kuwaiti family — to meet the needs of the diwaniya, the zawara, and the gatherings that bring people together, where trust and familiarity are part of daily life.
That’s why the app had to be clear, easy to use, generous in its offers, and transparent in its dealings. The entire concept was inspired by our everyday life — from our co-ops to the way we communicate, our dialect, our social customs, and the needs of our homes.
Can you walk us through the development process of Jameia.com and describe how Kuwait’s local context influenced its features and evolution?
The project didn’t begin fully formed — it started with a simple idea, and from there we entered a phase of rapid development, constantly refining the platform based on real-time customer feedback. The Kuwaiti environment influenced every detail, from payment methods to how we organise products by season, and even how we incorporate cooperative-style promotions.
We listened to people, learned from them, and adapted accordingly.
It’s worth noting that Jameia.com is now considered one of the pioneers in retail delivery services in Kuwait. In 2023, we celebrated nine years since our launch — a milestone that reflects the steady growth of our customer base and operations. While we haven’t disclosed specific figures publicly, this growth clearly points to rising sales and revenues.
How does Jameia.com ensure quality, freshness, and trust in the delivery of essential grocery items, especially given the nature of the products?
We believe that trust is built on the smallest details. That’s why we’ve focused on forming strong partnerships with reputable, well-established suppliers and developed an internal system to monitor product quality from the moment it’s selected to the moment it’s delivered.
Every order goes through multiple quality checks, and our team is thoroughly trained to handle fresh products with exceptional care. At Jameia.com, professional integrity is our first line of defence.
In what ways has Jameia.com redefined convenience for Kuwaiti families when it comes to grocery shopping, especially in a fast-paced modern lifestyle?
Jameia.com is more than just a co-op — we’re not only selling products and offers; we’re giving families back their time. We’ve condensed the entire shopping trip into just a few minutes on your phone.
In a world full of daily pressures, we provide heads of households with room to breathe. Every feature in the app is designed to save time, reduce effort, and offer a smooth experience — just like visiting a co-op, but from the comfort of home.
We’ve also expanded beyond groceries to include restaurants, pharmacies, stores for men and women, electronics, children’s toys, educational supplies, and even pet care products.
What innovations or features in Jameia’s platform are designed specifically to meet the unique shopping habits and preferences of Kuwaiti consumers?
Kuwaitis truly appreciate attention to detail, so we’ve tailored our platform around the specific needs of the Kuwaiti household. We offer customised deals that begin with weekly starter offers, including our “Shabra” deals starting at an incredible 95 fils — fully subsidised by us.
Then come the weekend promotions, designed especially for gatherings and visits common in Kuwaiti culture. We’ve also introduced a smart shopping list and instant notifications for new offers.
Even the app’s user interface is inspired by our local way of shopping and navigating. We don’t imitate global platforms — we create something that speaks our language, fits our routines, and meets the real needs of our Kuwaiti community.
In what ways do you hope Jameia.com will inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders in Kuwait?
I want them to understand that entrepreneurship doesn’t require permission from anyone. Every sincere idea is a solution to a real problem — and it deserves to come to life and become an achievement.
Jameia.com is living proof that Kuwaiti dreams can stand out, succeed, and innovate — as long as the dream is genuine and the effort is consistent.
Could you tell us about any charitable or community-focused initiatives that Jameia.com has undertaken, and why these causes are important to you?
Yes, we actively participate in campaigns to support families in need by including a permanent donation link at the checkout stage — not just during Ramadan, but throughout the year.
We also collaborate with public benefit associations and various charitable events. Most recently, we took part in an initiative by the Indian Women’s Association in Kuwait to assist those facing financial hardship.
To me, a truly Kuwaiti project isn’t complete unless it serves its people and becomes part of their daily rhythm — not just a commercial front.
What motivated you to include philanthropic efforts in Jameia.com’s mission, and what impact have those initiatives had on the community?
Value isn’t measured by profit alone — it’s measured by impact. When a customer sees that part of their order is going towards supporting a family or a charitable cause, they feel a deeper connection to the platform.
And when a community sees a company that respects its traditions and supports its people, it opens its heart before its wallet — and that, to me, is what truly matters. I come from a family that believes in and actively supports charitable work, so this commitment is deeply personal.
Looking ahead, what is your long-term vision for Jameia.com’s role in Kuwaiti society and its impact on local communities?
I dream of Jameia.com becoming a comprehensive national and Gulf-wide platform — not just limited to shopping, but integrated into daily life. I want it to be an example of how technology can both uphold values and serve the community at the same time.
Today, Jameia.com operates with a relatively large team to manage its technical and logistical operations. Our workforce is estimated to be between 500 and 1,000 employees — this includes senior management, engineers, technicians, as well as warehouse, delivery, and customer service staff.
We also operate large-scale warehouses and a highly trained customer support team serving all areas of Kuwait. This level of infrastructure requires a substantial workforce to meet demand and ensure fast delivery and high-quality service.
What upcoming plans or innovations are you most excited about for Jameia.com’s future, and how do they align with the platform’s mission?
We’re currently working on developing and integrating artificial intelligence technologies that can suggest purchases to users based on their previous orders. We’re also expanding our services to include restaurants and pharmacies.
Our goal is for the app to become a true companion for Kuwaiti families — a simple, all-in-one platform that supports everything they need, without complication.
How did you approach building customer loyalty and trust in an industry where consistency, timing, and reliability are absolutely essential?
Honesty is the strongest currency. From day one, we’ve been committed to transparency — whether it’s about delivery times, pricing, or promotions. We’ve never promised anything we couldn’t deliver, and every issue we encounter is handled with openness.
Trust isn’t something you can buy — it’s built patiently, through consistency and persistence.
What changes or innovations do you hope to introduce to Jameia.com that will continue to engage young Kuwaitis and deepen the platform’s community impact?
We’re always looking for ways to engage with young people — whether through inspiring content, support programmes for small youth-led projects within the app, or involving them directly in product development. We don’t just want them to be users; we want them to be partners.
By encouraging youth entrepreneurship and creating a space where they can sell and promote their small businesses, we aim to empower the next generation.
While the company hasn’t publicly disclosed the exact number of daily or monthly orders, some published performance indicators offer insight. Jameia.com has over 150,000 active customers and attracts more than 300,000 visitors each month — clearly reflecting high daily activity. Based on these figures, it’s safe to estimate that the platform handles thousands of orders daily, which highlights the real impact it’s having in the market.
During challenging times, what keeps you motivated and focused on Jameia.com’s mission, and how do you inspire your team to stay the course?
I always remind myself of why we started. When we feel tired or overwhelmed, we think of a mother who saved her time, or a father who didn’t have to wait in a long queue.
The human purpose behind this project is what drives me — and it’s the same value we instil in our team every single day.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs in Kuwait about embracing challenges and staying committed to their vision?
Don’t be afraid of small beginnings, and don’t expect a smooth road. Every challenge is a lesson, and every failure is a step closer to success.
Entrepreneurship requires effort, perseverance, and determination — not just a good idea.
How do you ensure Jameia.com continues to innovate and adapt to Kuwait’s evolving needs and technology trends?
We always listen. Our users are the best developers, and the market is the ultimate testing ground.
That’s why we build based on data, move quickly, and learn from every piece of feedback. We’re committed to making technology a tool that serves people — not something that complicates their lives.
